State Police Issue Nearly 3,000 Vehicular Violations Over Holiday Weekend

During the four-day Labor Day Weekend, state police issued 2,954 violations to motorists for various vehicular offenses on roads in the state.

During the 96-hour period, state police used added personnel, unmarked patrol vehicles, and aircraft in the enforcement project designed to handle heavier-than-normal traffic flow.

State police report that they pressed charges involving 1,042 speeding violations, 365 seatbelt violations, and 64 drunken driving incidents, plus 1,483 miscellaneous violations.

During the period, state police investigated 275 motor vehicle accidents, of which 56 involved injuries and one accident was fatal. That early morning fatal accident on September 1 on Route 149 in East Haddam involved a motorcyclist colliding with a tree.
