Alan Clavette Installed As New President Of Newtown Rotary

The Rotary Club of Newtown recently held its annual Pass the Gavel celebration. The club’s members, spouses, and guests enjoyed a delightful evening at The Inn at Newtown to celebrate the successes of the previous year and to install the new officers and directors of the club for the coming year.

On hand to perform the installation ceremony was Rotary District Governor Rick Benson, who was assisted by immediate Newtown past president Dick Sturdevant, who presented the ceremonial gavel to Alan Clavette, the new president of Rotary Club of Newtown.

Mr Clavette’s cabinet includes the following officers: Bill Calderara, president-elect; Carrie Swan, vice president; Duane Giannini, secretary; Joe Tarshis, treasurer; and Mike Snyder, sergeant-at-arms. The directors are Mary Griffin, membership; Mike Toll, club administration; Larry Gardner, public relations; Brian Amey, Rotary Foundation; Christopher Hoeffel, director at large; and Dick Sturdevant, past president.

Mr Sturdevant presented 100% Attendance Awards for the year to Brian Amey, Christopher Hoeffel, Mike Snyder, and Mike Toll. Mr Sturdevant was also the recipient of one of those perfect attendance honors.

Mr Sturdevant also presented Presidential Citations for exceptional accomplishments over the previous year. Recipients of the Presidential Citation were Brian Amey for his work as chairman of the committee supporting the Rotary Foundation, Bill Calderara for his leadership in fundraising activities, Carrie Swan for her commitment to growing club membership, Joe Tarshis for his work as club secretary and treasurer, Mike Toll for successfully completing a project supporting a school in Costa Rica, and John Trentacosta for successfully leading the Jim Osborne Memorial Golf Classic, the club’s largest fundraiser.

Being named a Paul Harris Fellow is considered by all Rotarians to be a high honor.  Past Rotary District Governor Ernestine Luise was on hand to recognize the following Rotarians with this award: Dr Nicholas Borrello, Kim Danziger, Christopher Hoeffel, Dr Thomas Nipper, W. Nelson Roberts, Dick Sturdevant, and John Trentacosta.

Occasionally, the Rotary Club of Newtown will recognize members of the Newtown community who are not Rotarians with this award. These individuals are recognized for the contributions that they make to the Newtown community and because they live the ideals of Rotary, i.e. “Service Above Self.”

Ms Luise and the members of the Rotary Club of Newtown were honored to declare Dorrie Carolan and Donna DeLuca Paul Harris Fellows for their continuing work in creating and leading Newtown Parent Connection. Through their hard work and sacrifices they have contributed significantly to making Newtown a better place for all.

The Rotary Club of Newtown meets every Monday evening at 6 pm at The Inn at Newtown. Anyone interested in learning more about the club should contact Alan Clavette at 426-2080.
