Newtown Babe Ruth 15s Win Easily

Newtown’s Babe Ruth 15U Travel Baseball team scored a combined 35 runs in the first two games of the annual Jimmy Fund Tournament, hosted by the Ridgefield and Bethel programs and played in Ridgefield, this past week.

Newtown 19, Fairfield 1: Starter and winning pitcher Daniel Lynch not only pitched well but also went 3-for-3 at the plate with four runs scored. Newtown was led by Evan Barreto (2-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored), Ryan Schmidt (2-for-4 with a double, triple and three runs), Sean Kennedy (2-for-2, double, two runs) and Colby Brown (3-for-4, triple, three runs). Kyle Packer, Brown and Erik Hoffman provided solid relief for Lynch on the mound and center fielder Johnny Fracker turned in another highlight reel performance for Newtown by throwing out a Fairfield runner trying to score on a deep flyout in the second inning.

Newtown 16, Bethel 2: Newtown’s bats remained hot with another lopsided win. Evan Barreto took game MVP honors with a big day at the plate, including a three-run homer. Colby Brown, Kyle Packer, Tory Deakin and Sean Kennedy all contributed long doubles and triples and Canaan Brown, Erik Hoffman, Matt Harrison and Mike Herring delivered key RBI singles in the fourth inning. Packer and Deakin combined with Daniel Lynch, Ryan Schmidt and Colby Brown on the mound as Newtown preserved its pitching for the third game of the tournament which continued this week.
