Letters of Endorsement

To the Editor:

I have met Bill Sheluck. I appreciate all the good work he did in the creation of the finance board. I also heard him at the Pizza & Politics meeting at which he appeared quite articulate. I could easily vote for him in another year. But not this year. This year my vote belongs to Herb Rosenthal.

Herb has given us six years of steady, reliable leadership. Several council members both Republican and Democratic with whom I have spoken concur that Herb has these qualities. They say he has been easy to work with. A man of ideas, he does not present his thoughts as if they were written in stone. They also comment that he is always willing to listen to the other side. When he sees the necessity, they say he is willing to compromise. Now that’s my kind of leader –– someone who has good ideas but who will take advise and even sometimes change his mind.

In addition to his essential strong character, he has done much for Newtown in his six years. He has had a hand in so many things such as tax relief for seniors, reducing the selectmen’s budget by 4.2 percent, bringing sewers to the Meadowbrook Mobile Home Park, obtaining the Kazan property for open space, encouraging the development of the Curtis Corporate Park, and resurfacing over 40 percent of our 250 miles of road. The list goes on. For all these things as well as for his steady, reliable, flexible, and innovative character my vote goes to Herb Rosenthal. Here’s to six more years!

Sincerely,

Gordon M. Williams
