Orienteering Meet In Easton Sunday
Orienteering Meet In Easton Sunday
EASTON â Western Connecticut Orienteering Club will host a meet on Sunday, September 2, at Trout Brook Valley. Participants should use the Country Club Lane entrance.
Registration begins at 10 am, with the start at 11. All levels are welcome. Instruction and compasses will be available for beginners from 10 to noon.
Pavlina Brautigam of Bethel will be setting up the event. Participants will use an orienteering map and the compass to find their way across the terrain seeking orange and white flags at various land features. The features are marked on the map and act as checkpoints along the course.
The participants decide on the route to the feature and punch a score card to confirm finding the flag.
In orienteering as a competition, the winner punches all the flags in the shortest time. At Trout Brook Valley, the competitors will find as many controls as possible within two hours. Instruction and training will be available for beginners.
