IAIS Village Interpreter Program Returning

WASHINGTON — For the third consecutive year, the Institute for American Indian Studies (IAIS) will present a Village Interpreter Program in its outdoor Algonquian Village. The Leever Foundation of Waterbury has provided the grant for this year’s program, which will begin June 23.

Each weekend a Native American will give visitors an understanding of the history, culture, and social values of Eastern Woodland Indians. The interpreter will also demonstrate various crafts, outdoor cooking, dancing, and other traditional skills and lifeways indigenous to the Native Peoples of New England.

The museum’s interpreters are of Abenaki, Mohawk-Shinnecock, Cree, and Mi’Kmaq descent and will also discuss  contemporary issues.

IAIS is at 38 Curtis Road. For further information, contact the museum at 860-868-0518.
