Newtown’s Rapid Response

To the Editor:

I would like to thank all the tree workers, firefighters, and police who worked so hard to clear the many trees and wires that were down because of the tornado last week. These terrific people worked through the night to clear the many roads that were impassable. I also applaud Mr Rosenthal and Fred Hurley for assisting in coordinating all these operations.

It was quite distressing to be in the position of trying to get home after work and encountering the great number of obstructed roads. It did produce a lot of anxiety, not knowing when or if emergency vehicles would be able to get through. I was pleasantly surprised to see that power was restored within hours and not days. I believe that this was facilitated by the rapid speed at which the roads were cleared. A great job done in the face of an unusual, unpredictable event!

Sincerely,

Patricia M. Harris
