Youth Boys’ Lacrosse Highlights

Newtown Senior Gold Boys 7, New Milford Senior Silver 5 – Newtown beat its neighbor to the north with a solid team ef-fort. Trey Trudell turned in a strong night with four goals. Justin Brophy played well at midfield, scoring two goals, as did Andrew Cebry, whose goal tied the game in the first quarter after Newtown had fallen behind 1-0. Newtown also got solid ground ball efforts from Dan Hebert and James Marusi, with seven possessions of loose balls each.

Madison Senior A 15, Newtown Senior Gold Boys 8 – Defensive lapses allowed a speedy Madison team to jump on top with four quick goals. Trey Trudell provided the bulk of the offense with three goals. Justin Brophy contributed with ten ground balls for Newtown. Cory Fisher made some nifty dodging moves to get free a goal. On the defensive side, Newtown got a solid effort from Will Fletcher.

Danbury Senior Orange 8, Newtown Senior Blue Boys 7 – Ryan Brown scored two goals and scooped 13 ground balls. Patrick Cappoziello, Connor Quinn, and Nate Coleman each scored goals. James Radcliffe added two tallies and Ted Benoit had ten saves.

Newtown Senior Blue Boys 6, Stratford Seniors 2 – Patrick Cappoziello scored two goals and Connor Quinn had a goal and two assists to lead Newtown to the win. Graham Derrickson had a goal and an assist, and Stefan Hennessey and Bran-don Cusmano each scored goals. James Radcliffe had eight ground balls and Ted Benoit made 16 saves.

Madison Senior B 13, Newtown Senior Blue 8 – Graham Derrickson scored three second half goals but it wasn’t enough for Newtown to overcome a scoreless first half. Nate Coleman and Ryan Brown scored two goals and Patrick Cappoziello scored a goal and had an assist. Brandon Cusmano had an assist and scooped six ground balls to lead the team. Ted Benoit was outstanding in goal.

Newtown Lightning Gold 16, John Jay Lightning Black 9 – The Lightning Gold offense got off a staggering 46 shots, while the defense of CJ Dunn, Nick Rubino, Stephen Ferrigno, and Chris Hartley held a strong John Jay offense to only 25 shots. The Newtown scoring was spread out among Brandon Powell, Colin Smalkais, Deegan Beauchemin, Bubba Condon, Jon Rospenda, Chris Brown, Nolan Fisher, Clay Gattey, and Andrew Tousignant. Newtown also won the ground ball battle by a 37-30 margin.

Brookfield Lightning Blue 6, Newtown Lightning Blue 2 – Newtown Blue Lightning was handed its first loss this year. Aus-tin Leblanc, Aaron Beckett, Douglas Main, Aidan Bowler, and Ryan Kiss all played solid games. Michael Parker and Joey Santella found the net in the fourth quarter.

Pomperaug Lightning Black 10, Newtown Lightning Blue 6 – Aiden Bowler played a great defensive game, clearing the ball to Steven Faxlanger who scored twice and scooped five ground balls. Newtown got strong play from Aaron Beckett with an assist, Joey Santella and Andrew Svanda with three ground balls, and Jared Pearson with ten ground balls and four goals.

Newtown Lightning White 15, John Jay Lightning Silver 7 – Quinn Helmig had 11 ground balls and Scott Bauer had nine, Charlie Fletcher and Ryan Marusi added seven, and Matt Meyers, Payton Manning, and Kenny Barber each had six. Austin Carfi, Quinn Helmig, Kenny Barber, Matt Davis, and Pat Conte all scored twice. Charlie Fletcher and Matt Meyers both had a pair of assists. Goaltenders Mike Roche, Matt Davis, and Pat Conte played well.

Madison Junior A 8, Newtown Junior Gold 3 – Tyler Hanley had 11 ground balls and Chase Hutchinson had five. Grab-bing four ground balls each were Alec Beauchemin and Pat Thornberg. Ian Whaley added three. Goals were scored by Whaley, Alec Beauchemin, and Cody Ryan. Jacob Newton-Tanzer made 11 saves in goal.

Newtown Junior Gold 8, Amity Junior A 2 – Cody Ryan paced the Newtown scoring with three goals, and Jacob New-town-Tanzer added two goals and three assists from the midfield. Ian Whaley, Steve Walsh, and Tyler Hanley also scored goals. Ground balls were gathered by Chase Hutchinson with five, and Tyler Hanley, KC Condon, and Conner Hanley with four each. Casey Fuller had a good day in cage with eight saves.

Newtown Junior Gold Boys 7, Brewster Junior A 8 – Brewster scored with one minute left in the second overtime to dash the Newtown hopes. Jack Kearney led the team with seven ground balls and another great day clearing the ball on defense. Chase Hutchinson scooped six ground balls and Jacob Newton-Tanzer started in goal for the first time and played a great first half first with five saves. Ian Whaley and Hutchinson each had two goals. Also scoring were Cody Ryan, Steve Walsh and Newtown-Tanzer. Tyler Hanley played well on both ends of the field.
