East Meets West Hike Along Saugatuck River

WESTON — A moderately strenuous guided hike of eight to ten miles along the Saugatuck Valley Trails system will be presented by The Nature Conservancy on Sunday, September 10, from 10 am to 3 pm, to celebrate the end of summer vacations.

Carpooling from off-site parking in Weston to the start of the hike at the conservancy’s Devil’s Den Preserve, hikers will parallel the West Branch of the Saugatuck River, veer off to follow a small tributary, and climb to the Weston and Redding Great ledges with a view over the valley and Saugatuck Reservoir during lunch. They will then wind down to follow the reservoir and main branch of the river back to the parking area. Den natural history guides Cia Marion and Heather Seymour will lead the hike.

Participants should wear hiking shoes, pack a snack lunch, and bring a camera, if desired. Registration is required and limited, so participants should call the Den office at 203/226-4991 weekdays between 9 am and 5 pm for reservations, information, or directions to the off-site parking.
