A Musical Tribute To America
A Musical Tribute To America
WATERBURY â Concert baritone Phillip Mentor will sing and tell tales in diverse styles and languages during a musical tribute to the United States at the Mattatuck Museum Arts & History Center on Sunday, October 26, from 1 to 3 pm.
The concert will celebrate our countryâs rich ethnic heritage with spirituals and gospel songs, Broadway tunes, folk songs and sacred concert music in languages to include French, Spanish, Italian, Yiddish, and English. Mr Mentorâs stories are designed to appeal to a wide variety of age groups, making the concert an ideal family outing.
Born in Trinidad, Phillip Mentor is a trained opera singer who has performed in musical plays and theaters, and with symphony orchestras throughout the United States and Caribbean. Among his awards are first place in the North American Guild Voice Competition, African-American Singer of the Year, and Outstanding Young Vocalist of New Jersey.
Mr Mentor is a great story teller and his performances are both entertaining and thought-provoking.
âMy involvement in the arts has been a constant learning process. I thoroughly research each piece that I perform so that I can help the audience to relate by telling them about the time and ideas the piece conveys,â he said.
Admission for âWhat America Means to Me: A Musical Tribute in Five Languagesâ is $10 for museum members, $12 for non-member adults, and $5 for children under age 15.
