Sophomore center Lisa Masella, a 2002 graduate of Newtown High School, put together her fifth double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds as the Western New England College women’s basketball team ran its winning streak to eight games with an easy 61-32 victory over visiting Pine Manor College.

Masella has scored 172 points (12.3 per game) for the Golden Bears on 69-of-138 shooting from the floor (50%) and 34-of-64 shooting from the foul line (53.1%). She has grabbed a team-high 123 rebounds (8.8 per game) while dishing off 10 assists and making 12 steals.

WNEC is 8-5 overall (4-0 at home, 4-3 away, and 0-2 at neutral sites).

[Jayme Beckham, a 2001 graduate of Newtown High School, has played in 16 games (starting 12 of those) for the Western Connecticut State University women’s basketball team.

Beckham has scored 71 points (4.4 per game) on 29-of-87 shooting from the floor (33.3%) and 13-of-22 shooting from the foul line (59.1%). She has also grabbed 55 (3.4 per game) rebounds while dishing off 26 assists (1.6 per game).

Western Connecticut is 6-10 overall (2-4 at home, 2-4 away and 2-2 at neutral sites).

[Catherine Maher of Newtown, a 2003 graduate of St. Margaret’s-McTernan School in Waterbury, has helped lead the Trinity College women’s basketball team to an 8-6 overall record (7-3 in the conference).

Maher is the all-time leading scorer not only in St. Margaret’s-McTernan history but also Waterbury history, as well. She has played in all 14 games for Trinity and scored 149 points (10.6 per game) on 56-of-136 shooting from the floor (41.2%), 17-of-66 shooting from beyond the arc (25.8%) and 20-of-30 shooting from the free throw line (66.7%).

She has also grabbed 30 rebounds (2.1 per game) while dishing off 19 assists (1.4 per game).
