Police Investigate Vandalism At Two Businesses

Police are investigating two incidents of vandalism that occurred during a short span at two local businesses to determine whether the incidents are related.

The incidents occurred at Starbucks Coffee Company at 34 Church Hill Road about 11:41 pm September 16, and at Newtown Deli and Catering, LLC, at 79 South Main Street about 12:02 am September 17, according to police reports. The two businesses are two miles apart.

Police said they responded to a burglar alarm at Starbucks and found that the window in the front door of the business had been broken.

The suspect in that incident was described as a male about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, who was wearing blue/white camouflage pants, a light T-shirt, and a light baseball cap. Officer Matthew Wood is investigating.

About 20 minutes later, police received a burglar alarm from Newtown Deli where they found that a large window on the south side of the building had been broken with a large rock. That window apparently was broken in an attempt to gain access to an automatic teller machine (ATM) inside the building’s lobby.  The perpetrator apparently was seeking to steal the ATM, police said.

The building apparently was not entered. Officer Gary Wheeler is investigating.

Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of the incidents to contact them at 426-5841.
