Artists At Weir Farm: Three Trees

WILTON — The Weir Farm Trust and National Park Service is presenting the work of Joan Fitzsimmons and Lori Soderlind as the latest exhibit in the “Artists at Weir Farm” series. Through December 12, “Artists at Weir Farm: Three Trees – Joan Fitzsimmons and Lori Soderlind” is on view at the Weir Farm Visitor Center, 735 Nod Hill Road.

As a 2002 participant in the Weir Farm Trust’s Visiting Artists Program, Ms Fitzsimmons produced a body of black and white photographs to illustrate Three Trees, a collection of short stories by author Lori Soderlind. These images along with selected text from the short stories will be on exhibit.

Winter gallery hours, which went into effect November 15, are Thursday through Sunday from 9:30 am to 5 pm.

An artist and educator, Joan Fitzsimmons has created photographs and photographic installations for over thirty years. She has been in solo and group exhibitions presented at The Discovery Museum in Bridgeport; 4th Street Photo, New York City; Real Art Ways in Hartford; and The Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago.

Her work is included in the collections of The Brooklyn Museum of American Art, William Benton Museum in Storrs, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and various university and private collections.

Lori Soderlind is a journalist and writer whose work has appeared in publications including The New York Times, Montana Magazine and The Boston Globe. Her essay “Greed” was recently featured on the New York state affiliate of NPR.

She holds her MFA in nonfiction writing from Columbia University and spent 15 years working as a newspaper reporter and editor before joining the faculty at Norwalk Community College.
