Bluefish Owners Among Chairs For Memorial Day Road Race

BRIDGEPORT — The co-founders and owners of the Bridgeport Bluefish, Mary Jane Foster and her husband, Jack McGregor, have agreed to serve as honorary chairs of the third annual Bridgeport Hospital Home Run on Sunday, May 28.

“In its first two years, the Bridgeport Hospital Home Run has brought more than 500 people to our city and to our ballpark,” Ms Foster said. “Jack and I, representing the new ownership group of the Bluefish, are delighted to serve as honorary chairs.”

Also serving as an honorary chair, for the second time, is Y.M. Naci, MD, of Stratford, a retired Bridgeport Hospital ear, nose and throat specialist, and a lifetime running enthusiast. The 82-year-old Dr Naci is participating in his third Bridgeport Hospital Home Run this year.

The 5-kilometer road race, walk and wheelchair race will start and finish at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard, home of the Bluefish. The event also includes a children’s fun run inside the ballpark.

Last year’s top female finisher was Rebecca Steinkraus of Newtown in 20 minutes, 23 seconds.

The certified Bridgeport Hospital Home Run course goes through Seaside Park and finishes back at the ballpark. The children’s fun run will be on a short course inside the stadium. Described by race producer Marty Schaivone as “one of the smoothest races from start to finish” of the more than 140 he has helped direct, last year’s Bridgeport Hospital Home Run raised nearly $12,000 to support patient care programs and services.

Bridgeport Hospital is the home of the Andrew J. & Henrietta Panettieri Burn Center, the only dedicated burn care facility in Connecticut. Other services include the Heart Institute, which provides cardiac surgery, angioplasty, and sophisticated heart rhythm care; the Birthplace, specializing in high-risk maternity care; the P.T. Barnum Pediatric Center; the Norma F. Pfriem Cancer Center and Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center; the Center for Sleep Medicine; and the Wound Healing Center of Fairfield County.

Registration for the road race, walk and wheelchair meet is $20. The children’s fun run is $5. Souvenir T-shirts are available for the first 500 registrants.

Proceeds will benefit the hospital’s patient care programs and services. For information, call the Bridgeport Hospital Foundation at 203-384-3600 or visit bridgeporthospital.com.
