A Visit From The Fire Department

On September 25, Cub Scout Pack 170 held their first pack meeting of the year at Sandy Hook School. For their program that night, Pack 170 hosted the Sandy Hook Fire Department. The Firefighters spoke about fire safety, equipment use, and rescue methods. The kids had enjoyed sitting in the fire trucks and learning about all of the equipment. They even got to meet the fireman with a smoke-protecting mask. They were encouraged to not be afraid of this man, but to go to him if he ever came into a burning building to save them.

Den 5 opened the meeting and presented the Colors; Den 4 closed the meeting.

All the new Tiger Scouts were welcomed as well as the new leaders. The former scouts then proceeded to teach the newcomers the infamous Baby Shark song.

Cubmaster Mike Salvatore said, “We appear to have a terrific group of new leaders who have shown enthusiasm and scouting spirit. I’m looking forward to working with each and every one of them.”

Deryl Gaier, the new assistant Cubmaster, was also welcomed to the group.

The next Pack meeting will be on Monday, October 23, at 6:45 pm. Boys from first to fifth grade can still join the Cub Scouts by calling Karin Spieker at 426-1162 or Suzanne Davenport at 270-9504.
