Diane L. Markey

Softball Champion

Diane L. Markey, 60, of West Haven, formerly of Milford, died November 19 in her home. Daughter of Kenneth Sherwood and Agnes Slez Cook, she was born on January 17, 1945, in Bridgeport.

Ms Markey leaves a brother, Richard Sherwood of Newtown; and a sister, Kathleen Fernandez of Middleburg, N.Y. She is also survived by four children, Philip M. Markey, Jr, and his wife, Michelle, of West Haven, Ronald E. Markey and his wife, Dottie Jo Moore Markey, of Branford, Michael W. Markey and his wife, Sandra, of Sanford, Fla., DanaLynn Dowling and her husband, Michael, of Middlebury; and 13 grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, John Sherwood; and a sister, Maryanne Gambel.

She was a member of the Berean Assembly of God Church in Milford and played with the American Softball Association in Milford for more than 20 years, who were city champions for many years. While her children were young, she coached the Milford United Soccer League and was den mother with the Cub Scouts of America.

 A funeral service was held at the Cody-White Funeral Home, Milford, on November 23, followed by interment in King’s Highway Cemetery, Milford.
