Sandy Hooks Set For Vintage Base Ball Season

The Newtown Sandy Hooks Vintage Base Ball team will begin the seventh season of 19th century base ball this Saturday, April 9, when the team hosts the newly-formed Liberty Base Ball Club. The teams will meet at McLaughlin Vineyard on Albert’s Hill Road in Sandy Hook at 11 am. They will play an 1864 match, followed by a second match of yet to be determined rules. “Mister” Jay Edwards will hurl for the Sandy Hooks.

The Liberty club is patterned after a Norwalk based club that played in southern New England in the mid-1860’s.

Newtown Sandy Hook’s home schedule is as follows: April 9 - Norwalk Liberty,  April 30 - Waterbury Connors,  May 21 - Eckford of Brooklyn, June 11 - Brooklyn Atlantics, July 9 - New London Thames, July 16 - New York Gotham. All matches scheduled for Saturdays at 11 am at McLaughlin Vineyard.
