Tractor-Trailer Crash Snarls I-84

A one-vehicle tractor-trailer truck accident on eastbound Interstate 84 on July 23 snarled traffic for hours, backing up  motorists on the highway, some of whom drove onto local roads in seeking to find a way to get around the crash.

State police said truck driver Kevin S. Collier, 48, of Port Richey, Fla., was driving a 2002 Freightliner eastward, about 1,500 feet west of Exit 11, in the left lane of three lanes, at about 11:32 am, when the truck struck a bridge abutment alongside the highway median.

The truck also hit about 300 feet of steel cable guardrails. The truck then drove down an embankment in the median, state police said.

Collier received minor injuries and was treated at Danbury Hospital. State police said he failed to drive in the established lane.
