Parent Connection To Host Upcoming Workshops
Parent Connection is sponsoring a series of parenting workshops led by area counselors including District Health Coordinator Judy Blanchard and Newtown Youth Servicesâ Life Skills Education Coordinator Roseanne Loring.
âRisk and Protective Factors: How is a child prone to risky behavior?â explores different ways that families can develop healthy home environments. Participants will learn how risk and protective factors are organized in different âdomains,â including peer groups, family, school, and community. They will then identify how risk and protective factors relate to their own lives. While, for example, âlack of family managementâ can be a risk factor for families, having a network of relatives or friends in the neighborhood can be a protective one. The event will be held on Thursday, March 11, from 7:30 to 9 pm, facilitated by Judy Blanchard.
âParenting 101: Tips to Maintain Your Sanity â Despite Your Childâ discusses the all-important link of humor to skillful parenting. The event will be held on Tuesday, March 16, from 7:30 to 9 pm, facilitated by Roseanne Loring.
âHow Parenting Can Encourage Self-Esteemâ explores how families can help increase and sustain their childrenâs self-esteem, especially during the difficult years of adolescence. The event will be held on Thursday, April 1, from 7:30 to 9 pm, facilitated by Kim Scott, clinical director of the Family Counseling Center.
Fee for each workshop is $10 per person, $15 per couple. Proceeds will benefit the Parent Connection. Space is limited, registration required. Locations for all events will be announced. For more information, call NYS at 270-4335.
