Danbury Hospital To Sponsor

Three Medical Town Meetings In March

DANBURY — Danbury Hospital will sponsor Medical Town Meetings on female urinary incontinence, colon and rectal cancer, and coping with chronic illness during the month of March.

On Tuesday, March 7, from 7 to 8:30 pm, physician experts will discuss advances in the treatment and management of female urinary incontinence and pelvic floor disorders. The program, “Laughing and Leaking — New Directions in Treating Female Urinary Incontinence,” will take place in the hospital auditorium. There is free parking in the Blue Visitor’s Parking Lot, Hospital Avenue entrance.

Discussion topics to be addressed include fecal and urinary incontinence, menopause, and the prevention and treatment of pelvic prolapse. Featured speakers will be Richard Bercik, MD, practice director, urogynecology, and assistant professor at the Yale University School of Medicine; Kathleen Connell, MD, assistant professor, Yale University School of Medicine; Eddie Sze, MD, division director, urogynecology, associate professor, Yale University School of Medicine; Jeffrey Gorelick, MD, Danbury Hospital Department of Surgery, Section of Urology, and Edward Beck, MD, Danbury Hospital Department of Surgery, Section of Urology. Catherine B. Andrew, administrative director of Women’s and Children’s Services, will facilitate the evening program

A Medical Town Meeting addressing “Gaining Ground in Colon and Rectal Cancer” will take place on Tuesday, March 23, from 7 to 8:30 pm, in the hospital auditorium.

Featured speakers will be Danbury Hospital surgeon Stuart Bussell, MD, and Joseph Fiorito, MD, chief of gastroenterology at the hospital. Both are physician members of the Danbury Office of Physician Services, PC. They will discuss the latest information regarding prevention, diagnosis and treatment of colon and rectal cancer.

“Coping With Chronic Illness” will be discussed at the Medical Town Meeting on Tuesday, March 30, from 7 to 8:30 pm, in the hospital auditorium.

Featured speakers will be Jo-Ann Morato-Soltis, MD, Danbury Hospital Department of Medicine-Hospitalist and physician member of Danbury Office of Physician Services, PC; Karen Mulvihill, an advanced practice registered nurse and coordinator of the Danbury Hospital Collaborative Approach to Relieve and Ease Symptoms (CARES) Program; Ann Leiss, Danbury Hospital patient representative coordinator, and a clinical resource manager. Patrice Hough, manager of the Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital, will serve as the program’s moderator.

The speakers will address issues related to advanced disease, symptom management in chronic illness, and advance directives.

Ample time will be provided for audience questions. Danbury Hospital Medical Town Meetings are free, monthly health and wellness programs open to the public. No RSVP is required.
