Stratford Man

Police said they determined that motorist Javier Vazquez, 22, of Stratford was driving 53 miles per hour in a posted 35-mph zone on Toddy Hill Road on the afternoon of February 20, so they stopped Vazquez.

On investigating, police charged Vazquez with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving while under suspension. After processing the arrest, police released Vazquez on a promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Match 17 to answer the charges.

 

Warrant Arrest

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Jason Visokay, 25, of Southford turned himself in at the police station February 20 and was charged with failure to appear in court, evading responsibility, and failure to drive to the right.

Police said the motor vehicle charges stem from an accident that occurred last December 25 at the intersection of Wasserman Way and the Exit 11 ramps of Interstate 84.

Police released Visokay on $300 bail for a March 4 court appearance.

South Main Crash

 About 1 pm on February 17, motorist Scott Kimball, 33, of Southbury, who was driving a Ford F-350 pickup truck, stopped for turning traffic ahead of him near 41 South Main Street, after which the Ford was struck from behind by motorist Douglas Hunter, 41, of Milford, who was driving a 2003 Honda Element sport-utility vehicle.

There were no injuries. Police gave Hunter a written warning for following too closely.

Sandy Hook Collision

Motorist Michael LaFrancois, 35, of Westport, who was driving a 2004 Ford coupe, was heading eastward on Route 34 and then stopped at a red traffic light at Route 34’s intersection with Toddy Hill Road at about 3:40 pm February 19, police said.

An eastbound 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Martin Schertzer, 48, of 24 Clearview Drive then stopped behind the Ford, police said.

The Hyundai then started to pass the Ford on the right in order to turn right onto Toddy Hill Road, but Ford passenger Shane LaFrancois, 24, of Westport started to open the Ford’s passenger door, resulting in a collision, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Schertzer a written warning for passing on the right.

Lincoln Vs Dodge

About 4:19 pm February 13, a two-car accident took place on Cedar Hill Road. Motorist David Schaedler, 38, of 17 Scenic View Drive was driving a 1986 Lincoln Town Car southward, as motorist Robert Elias, 41, of 11 Pebble Road was driving a 2000 Dodge Intrepid northward, police said. While negotiating a curve in the road, the Lincoln skidded and entered the northbound lane, colliding with the Dodge, police report. There were no injuries.

I-84 Charges

State police report that at about 2 am February 21 they stopped motorist Natalie King, 26, of Waterbury on eastbound Interstate 84, about one-half mile east of Exit 11, because the vehicle she was driving did not have its rear marker plate illuminated.

On investigating, state police charged King with failure to illuminate a rear marker plate and with driving under suspension. King was scheduled to appear in court to answer the charges.

Tractor-Trailer

Tractor-trailer trucker Richard Brehm, 39, of Rochester, N.H., was driving eastward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 8, about 4:45 am February 21, when he lost control of the truck on the wet roadway and hit the guardrailing on the road’s median, damaging a 350-foot-long section of guardrail, state police said. Brehm was not injured. State police said Brehm was traveling too fast for conditions.

Chevrolet Crash

Motorist Diana Cangin, 61, of Woodbury was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier eastward on Interstate 84, about one-half mile west of Exit 9 at about 1:40 pm February 20, when Cangin sneezed and lost control of the auto, state police said. The Chevrolet struck guardrailing along the right side of the road. Cangin was not injured.

Furniture Falls

While traveling eastward on Interstate 84 near Exit 9 at about 10 am February 19, a 2001 Dodge pickup truck driven by Martin Kenney, 43, of Ridgefield dropped some furniture, which it was carrying, state police said.

Motorist Elizabeth Iannini, 30, of Brighton, Mass, who was driving a 2002 Honda Accord behind the Dodge, then swerved to avoid striking the fallen furniture, state police said. The Honda first struck the median guardrail and then struck the guardrail along the right road shoulder, state police said.

Iannini received minor injuries in the accident and was transported to Danbury Hospital by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, state police said.

State police said Kenney failed to secure a load.

 

Hawleyville Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Hawleyville Road and the Exit 9 interchange of Interstate 84 about 5:30 pm February 23.

The collision involved motorist Italo Salinas, 19, of Danbury, who was driving a 1996 Volkswagen Golf, and motorist Harry Enochs, 48, of 21 Dodgingtown Road, who was driving a 1995 Ford F-100 pickup truck, police said. Both drivers received ambulance transport for treatment of minor injuries, according to police. The accident is under investigation.

 

SUV Vs Deer

Motorist Cynthia Strait, 52, of 150 Head O’ Meadow Road, who was driving a 2003 Saturn Vue sport-utility vehicle westward near 43 Castle Hill Road at about 6 pm February 23, collided with a deer, police said. Strait was not injured. No enforcement action was taken.
