Logo Panel Does Its Best To Drum Up Excitement
The logo committee for Newtownâs tercentennial is âdrummingâ up excitement for the unveiling of the official tercentennial seal, scheduled for March 7 at 4 pm at the Alexandria Room in Edmond Town Hall.
The event is open to the public, and the committee hopes members of the community will come out in record numbers.
Meeting at the Cyrenius Booth Library this week, members of the logo committee, Marguerita Kotch, committee Chairman Mae Schmidle, and Tercentennial Commission member Janet Woycik tested the drum that will be used on March 7 for a unique drawing, and everything seems to be in order.
Newtown residents who attend the unveiling will be handed a piece of paper and invited to submit their names for inclusion in a drawing to help unveil the townâs Tercentennial Logo. Newtown residents of all ages are eligible.
The drum will be set up in the Alexandria Room, and a name will be drawn just prior to the unveiling.
According to Ms Schmidle, the tercentennial logo will be presented that day in color and framed in a gold antique frame. A red velvet cloth will conceal it until the unveiling, which will take place with proper pageantry.
John Fagerholm and his bagpipes will lead the way to the Alexandria Room for the unveiling. Special guests will attend, and many former residents are planning family reunions around the unveiling.
Residents in attendance will receive a complementary button, sure to be a collectorâs item, bearing the new logo.
This logo will be a mark of distinction and serve as a signal to Newtown residents of events and products sanctioned by the Tercentennial Commission.
âI hope the whole town turns out for the event,â said Ms Schmidle, who has been busy getting the logo to the button manufacturers. âI canât wait to see who will help officiate at the unveiling.
âSome lucky resident is going to mark this day as a memorable event,â she said.
The drawing was decided upon to make the unveiling a true town event. Along with officials and committee members, one lucky Newtown resident will share in this historic event.
Along with elected town officials, area groups, such as the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, are planning to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
Those who are unable to attend the unveiling, but want a commemorative button, will be able to purchase them at various locations in town for a small fee.
