Applications Open For

Vocational Award Program

WOODBURY — The Weller Foundation, Incorporated (formerly The Vitramon Foundation) encourages Newtown High School students to submit applications for this year’s Vincent Voccia Vocational Award.

The award, named for a former trustee of the Vitramon Foundation, has been offered annual to Newtown High School students since 1986.

The Voccia Award will provide financial assistance to a Newtown student who has chosen to pursue a vocational-technical career and will shortly enter vocational training.

Alexander Fraser, foundation trustee and program coordinator, said the award recipient would be eligible for a grant equal to the lesser of $2,500 or 50 percent of the tuition cost of the vocational program proposed.

To be eligible, a student must be attending Newtown High School at the time the award is made, has demonstrated an interest or talent in his or her chosen field, and satisfy the admission requirements of the selected institution.

Deadline is March 26. The award recipient will be announced April 12

Students interested in applying can obtain further details from the Newtown High School Career Center.

The award is named in memory of Vincent A. Voccia, who served as a trustee of the foundation before his death in 1980.
