February Programs At Audubon Center

SOUTHBURY — The Audubon Center at Bent of the River has two public programs planned during early February.

On Sunday, February 8, the center will welcome visitors from 2 to 4 pm for hot cocoa and coffee in The Barn. The refreshments can be enjoyed before or after visitors take advantage of the sanctuary’s trails for easy to moderate hiking or snowshoeing and cross-country skiing if conditions are favorable.

One great place to enjoy the birds and a scenic vista of the Pomperaug River and Althea’s Meadow is the viewing deck at the barn, where an Audubon volunteer will be on hand answer guests’ questions.

Then on Wednesday, February 11, the Audubon center will host an Adult Nature Walk beginning at 9 am. A Center naturalist will lead a leisurely hike focusing on the sanctuary’s rich natural history while watching for mammal tracks and for wintering birds. Bring snowshoes, if appropriate, and binoculars.

Suggested donation is $5. The Audubon Center at Bent of the river is at 185 East Flat Hill Road in the South Britain section of Southbury (off Route 172, turn at South Britain Congregational Church.
