Joseph Istvan, Sr

Joseph Istvan, Sr, a retired public works employee of the Town of New Fairfield and resident of Pine Hill Road, New Fairfield, died March 27 at his home.

Mr Istvan was born in Newtown August 29, 1926, a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Jaroshik) Istvan, and had made his home in New Fairfield for most of his life. A veteran of service with the US Army in the Pacific Theatre as a radio operator, he had returned to this area and worked as a well-driller prior to associating with the Town of New Fairfield.

Mr Istvan was active in the New Fairfield Veteran’s Association, and had contributed his energy to the formation of the Veteran’s Memorial Green and Monument, on Old Route #37, in the Town Center.

Formerly married to Marianne (Piskura) Istvan, his is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Sue Istvan of Danbury, and William and Doris “Dolly” Istvan of Kent; a grandson, Alexander Istvan, and two step-grandchildren, Bradley and Jessica Banks. He had anticipated the arrival of his additional grandchild in April. He is also survived by a sister, Anna Dishey of Monroe; two nieces, Dianne Rochette of New York and Joanne Dishey of Chicago, Ill.; and a grandniece, Emily.

A funeral will be held at The Tomlinson Homestead, 366 Main Street, Danbury, on Saturday, March 31, at 10 am. Friends will be received at The Homestead on Friday from 6 to 8 pm.

Burial, with military honors provided by the New Fairfield Veteran’s Association, will be in Mountainview Cemetery, New Fairfield.
