Girls On The Run Help Those In Need
Members of Girls on the Run in Newtown raised $600 on December 9 to donate to the Salvation Army food pantry at the townâs social services department.
The programâs community project was a runathon in which they ran laps around the Hawley School. Sponsors pledged each girl either a flat donation or a per lap donation. They ran 125 laps.
Girls on the Run trains third through fifth grade girls for a lifetime of healthy living and self-respect. It is a hands-on learning program that combines training for a 3.1-mile run/walk event with an innovative curriculum designed exclusively for preteen girls. The 24-session curriculum includes running workouts and games that teach specific life skills such as how to make healthy decisions, resolve conflict and get along in a group. The program promotes physical, emotional, mental and social development. It is fun with a purpose.
Girls on the Run will be starting again in early March. Anyone interested in helping with the Girls on the Run Program can call 364-0461 or email girlsontherunct@hotmail.com. For additional information go to www.girlsontherun.com
