Leadership Course For Women

WATERBURY — Teikyo Post University is offering a special topics course, Leadership Skills for Women, online via the Internet. For those who prefer the classroom, the course is scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday nights at the main campus in Waterbury from 5:30 to 8:30 pm starting June 30 and ending August 18, 2000.

This course identifies five leadership styles and ten leadership behaviors. Patterns of leader/leadership emergence will also be defined. Topics covered include communicative perspectives, responsibilities of leaders, female roles in groups, six actions of success, leadership skills assessment, nonverbal skills of women, success and self-esteem. Students will complete a leadership skills assessment and work on various case studies and products designed to hone their leadership skills.

The class is part of Teikyo Post’s Accelerated Degree Program which allows students to earn either an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in half the time. The academic year is divided into six eight-week terms, and classes meet twice a week on Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Students can earn 30 credits in one year by taking two courses each term. There are also four other evening classroom sites in Bethel, Meriden, Trumbull, and West Hartford.

Those who wish to attend classes on the weekend can choose between Friday night or Saturday morning classes at the main campus in Waterbury. Online courses are available as well. All scheduled courses are guaranteed to run. The next weekend term begins in late August.

The Leadership Skills for Women special topics course counts as a management elective in Teikyo Post’s management program or as an upper level unrestricted elective for other majors. The course carries three undergraduate college credits, so those who are enrolled in other business programs may be able to use it as an elective, but they should check with their home institution.

Those who do not wish to earn credit for the course may audit it at half the tuition on a space available basis. The course is expected to fill quickly, so those who are interested are encouraged to register as soon as possible at www.teikyopost.edu. The course number is MGT 395.90 for the online course and MGT 395-70 for the classroom course. If you wish to receive a course bulletin, call Brenda Rouse at 800/582-8250 or e-mail with your home address at adp@teikyopost.edu.
