Kids Joining The Fight

To Find A Cure

“Kids For A Cure” is an elementary-aged version of Newtown’s community Relay For Life. Last year, 250 Newtown elementary school children participated in the first Kids For A Cure event.

Kids For A Cure is a fun way for Newtown’s children to participate in this important community-building event, while learning about the role they can play in the fight against cancer. During the event, participants learn ways to make healthy life style choices through eating smart, getting plenty of exercise, protecting themselves against the suns harmful rays, as well as discouraging the use of tobacco.

This year Newtown’s elementary schools — Sandy Hook, Head O’Meadow, and Middlegate —will be building a Chain of Hope. Each link within the chain will represent a Kids For A Cure participant, family member, cancer survivor, or will honor the memory of someone they know touched by cancer.

The goal of this event is to display the “Chain of Hope” all the way around the Newtown High School Track.

The Kids For A Cure relay will begin at 3 pm on June 7 at Newtown High school, prior to the Relay For Life. If your school or child would like to register, contact your elementary school’s co-chair or email relayforlifeofnewtown@gmail.com.

Based on the great success of the first Kids For A Cure event in 2007, all elementary-aged children participating this year will also leave the event well equipped to go into the community promoting cancer awareness and preventative behaviors.
