REDDING â On January 20, Scatacook District of the Connecticut Yankee Council, Boy Scouts of America, will hold a winter scouting festival entitled â2001: A Klondike Odyssey.â More than 350 Boy Scouts along with supporting adults will maneuver Klondike sleds around the Hoyt Scouting Reservation in Redding.
The theme is in keeping with the year 2001. Alaska has been abducted by aliens and the Scouts are to get it back. By traveling to different locations at Hoyt Reservation and performing scouting skills, they can begin to get Alaska back.
This is an annual event and involves scouts from towns as far north as Sherman and most of the surrounding towns of Danbury, Ridgefield, Bethel, Newtown, and Danbury itself. This full-day affair begins at 8 am and concludes at 5 pm.
Sleds go out with roughly six to eight scouts per team along with an adult supervisor. Stops are scheduled and a break for lunch is also a part of the schedule at the site where the scouts are at noon. All that the team of scouts needs is carried on the sled, including water and the lunches.
