ON THE ROAD/SHANNON HICKS
THE CHAT HOUSE in Newtown has some music back on its schedule, beginning with
the return this Saturday night (Feb 28) by TREBLEHOOK.
On March 6, VYTIS has a solo performance; followed by KATHLEEN KRUZE the
following night, March 7. And at the end of the month, LEO makes his Chat
House debut on March 27.
All shows start at 8 pm, and admission is $3. The Chat House is at 37 Church
Hill Road, in the same parking lot as The Ice Cream Shop.
In two weeks, MIND TYDES will return almost to the spot where the band's music
career took off. On Thursday, March 12, the Newtowners will be playing an
opening set -- kind of handing over the crown -- for the Radio 104 Battle of
the Bands at The Webster Theatre in Hartford (last year's contest was around
the corner at The Russian Lady). Mind Tydes won the radio station's first-ever
Modern Rock Wars last year, after competing in the same kind of competition
the station is again hosting right now.
Each week, three bands perform at The Webster Theatre, with one band winning
each week. For the fifth week, the four winning bands return to play for the
title. That's what will be taking place next Thursday.
On Thursday, March 19, MIND TYDES has another show -- this time their own --
at Tune Inn, in New Haven.
Speaking of all things musical and Newtown, UNCLE WILL'S DOGS is about as
Newtown as you can get... The guys in this Grateful Dead tribute band are all
from town, and most are graduates of Newtown High. Band members are Butch
Bochino, bass; Vytas Valiusaitis, vocals; Jesse Bailey, drums; and Dale Jones,
guitar.
This Friday, Classic Rock Brew Pub in Danbury (near the airport) is presenting
a Grateful Dead Night -- free keg beer while the keg lasts, live concert
footage of Dead shows, and a headlining performance by Uncle Will's Dogs.
Admission is $4.
Clinique has a new fragrance on the market, called "happy." Does that mean a
woman wearing the scent can be called "clinique-ally happy"? (as opposed to
clinically depressed...)
Until next week, I'll be seeing you... on the road.
