Open House At

UConn Cancer Center

FARMINGTON — Physicians, surgeons, and caregivers from the UConn Cancer Center will host an open house on Thursday, October 23, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, in the cancer center to welcome the new director, Carolyn Runowicz, MD, as well as several other new physicians.

During the open house, which is free and open to the public, UConn experts will be available to answer questions and provide information about a wide range of cancer services.

Following the open house, the health center will present a special Discovery Series program on “Controversies in Breast Cancer.” As always, the Discovery Series is free and will begin at 7 pm in the Health Center’s Keller Auditorium (use main hospital entrance). Registration is required; call the health center at 800-535-6232.

The Charlotte Johnson Hollfelder Foundation is sponsoring “Controversies in Breast Cancer.” Speakers will include Dr Runowicz, who sill look at lingering questions concerning breast cancer and hormone replacement therapy. Also, surgeons and breast cancer specialists Scott Kurtzman, MD, and Kristen Zarfos, MD, will present information about how to interpret alarming health stories in the media, and will clarify recent controversies surrounding mammography and breast self-exams.
