Traffic Violations

Police said they saw motorist Kathleen Kallivrousis, 34, of Southbury turn right on a red light from Glen Road onto Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center about 5:30 pm June 25. The location is posted with a “No Turn On Red” sign. Police said they stopped the Honda Accord, which Ms Kallivrousis was driving, on Church Hill Road. Police charged her with violating a state traffic sign and operating a motor vehicle while under suspension. Police released her on bond for a July 6 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Three-Car Crash

State police report an accident involving three autos on eastbound Interstate-84 near Exit 9 in Hawleyville about 5:30 pm June 23.

The accident occurred in heavy traffic when vehicles were slowing down due to congested conditions, state police said.

A 1986 Cadillac coupe driven by William F. Foley, 53, of Waterbury struck the rear end of a 1995 Toyota sedan driven by Keith A. Mancini, 24, of Hawthorne, N.Y., pushing the Toyota into the rear end of a 1990 Honda coupe driven by Christopher Cavallari, 21, of Cheshire, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said Foley was following too closely.

Truck Damaged

State police report that trucker Saladino Valentino, 49, of Clifton, N.J., was driving a 1988 Mack truck eastbound on Interstate-84 about 11:50 pm June 22 when an unknown object struck the truck, breaking its windshield. Valentino was not injured. State police are investigating.

Asleep At The Wheel

Motorist Derek R. Higgins, 20, of Waltham, Mass., who was driving a 1992 Eagle Talon westbound on Interstate-84 west of Exit 10 about 1:45 am June 21, fell asleep at the wheel and struck a concrete barrier rail, according to state police. Higgins was not injured. State police issued him a written warning for failure to drive in the established lane.

I-84 DWI

State police report they charged motorist William Provost, 23, of Southbury with driving while intoxicated and failure to drive in the established lane about 1:30 am June 21 at Exit 11 of eastbound Interstate-84. State police released Provost on bond for a June 26 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Multiple Charges

Police report that while operating a radar speed unit on the northbound shoulder of Route 25 about 10:30 pm June 26, they observed a bottle being thrown from a red automobile driven by Cesar Hondares, 19, whose last known address is 37 Sugar Street.

Police said Hondares then attempted to elude police and in doing so passed another vehicle on the right. Police said they then stopped Hondares at the intersection of Route 25 and Meadow Brook Road. As they approached the car, it quickly drove away, eastbound on Botsford Hill Road, resulting in a police pursuit, according to police.

Hondares failed to negotiate a sharp left curve and hit an embankment, police said.

Police said they charged Hondares with littering, passing on the right, engaging in pursuit, operating a motor vehicle while under suspension, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, misuse of marker plates, failure to carry automotive insurance, and possession of alcohol by a minor.

Police said they held Hondares on bond for a June 27 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

Hammertown Party

Police report a group of youths held a party early on the morning of July 25 at the Fairfield County Fish and Game Club on Hammertown Road.

During the course of the event, an unidentified 18-year-old youth was assaulted, police said. The youth was treated for injuries at St Vincent’s Hospital in Bridgeport and released, police said.

Police said they charged Michael Hornak, 17, of Stratford with third-degree assault and simple trespassing. Police filed the same charges against an unidentified 15-year-old Bridgeport youth.

Also, police charged 10 other youths with simple trespassing. The youths are from Stratford, Shelton, Milford, and Westport, police said.

Main Street Crash

Police said a 1997 Saturn sedan, which was being driven northbound on Main Street by Kirsten Davies, 34, of 39 Pine Tree Hill Road about 9:30 pm June 27, stopped for a vehicle that had pulled out in front of it and was struck from behind by a northbound 1992 Honda Accord sedan driven by Douglas P. Riepe, 18, of Danbury. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Riepe for following too closely.

High School Vandalism

Police are investigating a case of vandalism at the Newtown High School athletic facilities.

Police said that sometime on June 20 or 21 someone damaged tennis nets, field hockey nets, and football equipment. The estimated value of the damage is $250, police said. Police received the report of vandalism June 21.
