Warrant Lists Multiple Charges Against Newtown Man

On January 16, police served a Danbury Superior Court arrest warrant against a local man, charging him with second degree burglary, first degree stalking, sixth degree larceny, and violation of a protective order.

Police said they charged Leslie “Larry” Russell, 55, of 53 Parmalee Hill Road with the offenses following an investigation that they conducted following a complaint that they had received on January 8 from a Newtown woman.

Police allege that Russell illegally entered the woman’s unoccupied home in the nighttime, while an active court order was in effect prohibiting Russell from making contact with the woman. The stalking and burglary charges are felonies.

Russell also had been charged with other criminal offenses last November and last March in connection with contacting with the victim.

After processing Russell’s arrest on January 16, police released him on a $50,000 bond for a January 20 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

In view of the pending charges, Russell was placed on paid administrative leave from his post as an assistant sanitarian with the town health department, and faces an upcoming disciplinary hearing, according to the town.
