NVCC Accepting Applications For Allied Health Programs

WATERBURY — Naugatuck Valley Community College (NVCC) is currently accepting applications for entrances into its Respiratory Care and Radiologic Technology programs.

Deadline for fall 2005 admission is January 15.

The Radiologic Technology program prepares students for certification as a radiographer qualified to use X-rays to produce diagnostic images of the human body.

Prerequisites include the following courses within the past eight years: two years of math, including intermediate algebra, with a minimum grade of  C, and two years of science, including biology with a lab.

Respiratory therapists, under the direction of a physician, evaluate, treat, and manage patients with breathing disorders and diseases. Prerequisites include biology and intermediate algebra with a minimum grade of “C” within the past five years.

According to state and national labor statistics, a shortage of allied health professionals has created a great demand for qualified employees in these fields.

Due to this demand, there are numerous career opportunities in a variety of health care settings available to graduates of allied health programs.

Additional information about NVCC’s allied health programs can be found at www.nvcc.commnet.edu or by contacting the Office of Admissions at 203-575-8151.
