Doris E. Layda died January 4 at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was the wife of the late John E. Layda and lived on Forty Acre Mountain Road in Danbury.
She is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, Richard and Priscilla Layda of Newtown.
Mrs Layda was born in New Milford, September 8, 1922, daughter of the late William and Leola (Dutcher) Stevens. She had lived in Danbury since 1946 and was employed as a food service worker for the Danbury School system for the last 20 years.
Mrs Layda was a member of the Beaver Brook Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and was a volunteer at the Danbury Hospital. She enjoyed bowling and square dancing in her leisure time.
She is also survived by two other sons and daughters-in-law, William and Cheryl Layda of New Milford, and John, Jr, and Jean Layda of Danbury; one daughter, Cheryl Smith of Woodbury; a sister, Ethel Espitee of Danbury; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on January 8 at 1 pm. Cremation followed at the convenience of the family.
