World War II Veteran
Stephen J. Baxter, 82, of Newtown, formerly of Fairfield, died June 29, in Ashlar of Newtown. He was the beloved husband of the late Ethel Zaleta Baxter.
Mr Baxter, a World War II veteran of the US Navy, was born in Summit, N.J., to Stephen and Mabel Baxter, and had been a longtime area resident.
He was a retired letter carrier for the US Postal Service and was a member of the American Legion and VFW, both of Fairfield.
Survivors include his devoted children Stephen K. Baxter and his wife, Diana, of Sandy Hook, Kim S. Graham and her husband, William, of Penfield, N.Y.; his cherished grandson Keith M. Baxter; a brother, William Baxter of Hollywood; and several nieces and nephews. Six brothers and three sisters predeceased him.
Funeral services took place July 3 in the Adzima Funeral Home, Stratford, and in Holy Family Church, Fairfield, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors was in Lawncroft Cemetery Fairfield.Â
