Shope Named Law Partner

BOSTON — John A. Shope, a former resident of Newtown, has been named a partner at Foley, Hoag & Eliot, LLP, one of Boston’s largest full-service commercial law firms.

Mr Shope’s practice focuses upon energy, insurance, consumer class action, and other complex commercial litigation, frequently for high technology clients. He has represented the State of New Hampshire in a challenge to the deregulation of its electrical utility industry. Mr Shope served in 1997-1998 as special assistant district attorney for Norfolk County, Massachusetts.

He earned his bachelor of arts from Amherst College in 1987 and his juris doctor from the University of Chicago Law School in 1991.

Founded in 1943, Foley Hoag, LLP, with offices in Boston and Washington, DC, has 240 attorneys in its various commercial law practice groups.
