THUNDER 2, EAGLES 1: The Thunder’s Brandon Leon-Gambetta scored first on a cross from Neris Halili. The second half opened with the Eagles’ Evan Arnold evening the score. With time running down, Brandon Leon-Gambetta banged in his second score. The Thunder’s Gabriel Guisti and Ben Spiegel played tough on both sides of play. For the Eagles, Greg Aiello and John Burns played strong defense.

GIRLS C/D

 

DESTROYERS 3, HURRICANES 0: Jennifer Brill, Jennifer Durelli and Nicole Frey scored the goals that lifted the Destroyers to the win. Jane Repasi, Laura Nadriczoy and Alissa Grasso played well for the Hurricanes.

DESTROYERS 4, HORNETS 1: Alli Kirk scored a pair of goals and Sydney Russell added one to lead the Destroyers to the win. Brianna Barry was solid in goal. For the Hornets, Olga Virgalla, Sarah Truckle and Mallory Webb played fine games.

NIGHTMARE 7, TERMINATORS 3: Matt Baier had three goals while Tony Vacaro, Chris Bock, Oskar Dean and Eric Thornberg had one apiece to lead the Nightmare. For the Terminators, Nahba Brobleh scored three goals while Adam Schankman and Jeff Brown played well.

NIGHTHAWKS 2, TORNADOES 2: Maura McDade of the ‘Hawks and Maura Gissen of the Tornadoes scored two goals apiece in this deadlock. For the ‘Hawks, Cara Colacurcio, Rebecca Castegner, Michelle Haitz and Nicole Grillo all played well. For the Tornadoes, Molly Day and Rachel Taback had solid performances.

BOOMERANGS 4, GATORS 1: Laura Bittman scored two goals while Monica Warek and Gretchen Hoffman added one apiece to lead the Boomerangs to the win. Becky Lipnick was solid on defense. For the Gaotrs, Mary Bloshuk scored the goal as Jacey Johns, Meredith Letso and Sheena Finlayson had good games.

GIRLS F

 

DOLPHINS 3, NIGHTHAWKS 0: Led by the scoring of Alison Pliszka, with two goals, and Kelly O’Connor with one goal, the Dolphins bested the Nighthawks 3-0. Molly Sheluck played well on defense, while Lisa Barber had a good game on offense. The Nighthawks’ Kate Martinelli was tough as goalie, while Abby Doski, Kyra Murray and Abby Keough played well for the team.

DEFENDERS 3, EAGLES 1: Jillian Jagoe scored two goals and Nicole Gindraux added one to lead the Defenders to a 3-1 victory. Leah barrett, Emma Kingsley, Lila Kohrman-Glaser, and Alyse Brautigam displayed outstanding teamwork to help secure the win. The Eagle’s goal was scored by Taylor Benson. Lydia Post, Emily Rowe and Danielle Villa all played solid games for the Eagles. The Defenders are now 7-0.

STRIKERS 1, TORNADOES 0: Teamwork and hustle helped the Strikers beat the Tornadoes. Brooke Leifels scored the only goal early in the third quarter off an indirect kick. Alyssa Finkenstadt, Kendall Svanda, Lindsey McCoy and Katherine Scott were strong on offense while Christina Naldini anchored the defense. Kelly Brook and Katie Burns played well for the Tornadoes.

BOYS F

 

ROADRUNNERS 1, SONICS 0: A third period goal by Marcus Toms off of a pass from Doug Brede proved decisive as the Roadrunners squeaked by the Sonics. The Sonics offense, led by Andy Hso, Tyler Hanna and Sean Fahey kept the pressure on throughout the game, but Nicolas Dee, Pieter Martino and the rest of the Roadrunners defense wouldn’t let them score. James Rebman was outstanding in goal for the Sonics.

WOLFPACK 5, WILDCATS 0: Colin Cooper (3), Thomas Murphy and Timmy Roberts scored the goals that lifted the Wolfpack to the win. Kevin Dennis and Paolo Moscovici anchored the defense. For the Wildcats, Michael Greenwood and Nicky Sajovic led the offense.  Yanni Koutmous and Sam Spiegel played great defense.

VELOCIRAPTORS 5, BOMBERS 1: Keith Wildman scored a pair of goals while Christopher Erickson, Derek Krewson and Carter Law scored one goal apiece to lead the ‘Raptors to the win. Andrew Ryan and Sean Mangold were rock solid on defense. For the Bombers, Keith Byar scored while Sean Nealy and Kevin LeBlanc played well.

BOYS U10

 

RAPTORS 3, BERKSHIRE UNITED 0: Chris McCann scored the first goal off a corner kick from Ben Morrison. Morrison then scored with assistance from Sam Hoagland and Colin Jacob. Daniel Greenwood scored the final goal off an assist from Andy Lapple. The Raptors saw strong play from Kyle Droniak and Benjamin Miles.

GIRLS U11

 

FARMINGTON 3, HURRICANES 1 (State Cup): The Hurricanes’ bid for the State Cup came to an end on Saturday as they were defeated by Farmington in the quarter finals. Tania Domingos got the Hurricanes’ lone goal early in the second half to cut Farmington’s lead to 2-1. Newtown kept the pressure on throughout the second half but were unable to score. Colleen Thornberg, Sarah Shannon, Kelley Sullivan and Adelle Ceretta put in solid performances for the ‘Canes.

HURRICANES 5, WOLCOTT 2: The Hurricanes clinched the Northwest Division championship with a 5-2 win over defending champion Wolcott. Tania Domingos got the ‘Canes on the board early with Nora Lynn Shimko scoring moments later. Haley Keane banged in the third and fourth goals to give Newtown a 4-0 lead. Wolcott fought back with two more goals early in the second half to close the gap to 4-2. Newtown turned it’s offense back on when Tania Domingos sent a strong corner kick accross the middle where Katie Serok blasted the ball into the visitors net, sealing the win and title. Emily Weber, Molly Curry, Jen Brewer and keeper Cassie David turned in another outstanding job on defense.

BOYS U11

 

NIGHTMARE 4, BERKSHIRE 2: Connor Collier scored two goals while Andrew Domingos and Andrew Meisel scored one apiece as the Nightmare remained undefeated in the league. John Gouveia, Ethan Carrotti, and Chris Parker played well in midfield, while Joe Cappiello and Chris Marks were, once again, solid on defense. Daniel Quinn and Jason Kostecki were strong in net.

BOYS U12

 

VIPERS 4, WALLINGFORD 0 (State Cup): The Vipers earned a spot in the Keith Johnson State Cup championship game with a win over Wallingford. Danny Smith recorded his fifth shutout of the tournament as the defensive backfield of Sean Weir, Mat DeBrantes, Kevin Davies, Chris Meier and Jason Smith supported him. Drew Taylor and Justin Miller controlled the center of the field as the Viper offensive strike fed off of team play throughout the field.  Kevin Troy put the Vipers on top within 2 minutes of the opening whistle and then later placed a corner kick onto J. Smith’s head that forced a Wallingford own goal. Paul Andras added a pair of second-half goals. The Vipers have out-scored their opponents 17-0 and will attempt to win their second consecutive Cup title on Saturday at 10 am in Newington. The Vipers will face Farmington, which beat Simsbury in another semi-final match.

VIPERS 5, BROOKFIELD 0: Nick Kallivrousis and Ethan Canfield sparked the Viper offense with aggressive midfield and forward play. Danny and Jason Smith shared time minding the Viper net but defensive stops by Kevin Davies, Alex Bowen, Sean Weir, Kevin Troy and Chris Meier denied the Brookfield offense from creating a threat. Paul Andras netted two goals while Max Hoagland, Drew Taylor and Anthony Florez all each added one apiece.

GIRLS U14

 

COLCHESTER 2, ROCKETS 1 (State Cup): The Rockets were eliminated in the State Cup semi-finals in a penalty kick shootout with Colchester. Alex Konneker scored first off a nifty pass from Sarah Salbu but Colchester followed about 20 minutes later by scoring off a rebound. The back line of Megan Rawson, Elyssa Samsel (wearing new shoes), and Emily Fields played well and goalie Maria was solid and had her share of saves. The midfield was patrolled by Mary Grace Ober, Erin Clark, Jillian Tanner, Casey Frobey, Vicki Thomas, and Kaitlin Hansen. The offensive was keyed by Tara Gaston and Kayla Mesko. After two, 10-minute overtimes, it came down to penalty kicks – where Colchester earned the win on the sixth kick.

BOYS U14

 

STORM 2, SOUTHBURY 2: The Storm rallied from a 2-0 first-half deficit to secure the tie. Chris Nuelle, Matt Norris, Matt Boland and Ross MacLeod all played well in the midfield while Will Brooks, Justin Carotti and goalie Steven Marks were solid on defense. Tyler Bigham and Max Barrett (with assists from Tad Pierson and Billy McCann) scored the goals. The Storm remain unbeaten, and in first, in league play.
