State Police Investigate Garner Assault

State police said this week they are investigating an inmate assault against a correction officer that occurred on November 6 at Garner Correctional Institution, the state’s high-security prison at 50 Nunnawauk Road.

State police said they learned at 10:12 am that day that inmate Karl Caman, 30, had allegedly assaulted Correction Officer David LaPointe, no age given, in Cellblock D at the prison.

Officer LaPointe received a head injury in the incident and was transported to Danbury Hospital where he was treated for his injury and then released, state police said.

The incident is under investigation and could result in criminal charges being filed against Caman, according to state police. In such cases, state police would seek an arrest warrant from Danbury Superior Court in order to make an arrest.

Caman, who is an unsentenced inmate at Garner, is being held there on $522,500 bail in connection with a charge of first-degree larceny.
