The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown presented its 36th Annual Spring Art Show at C.H. Booth Library recently. The show, which ran April 30 to May 7, was chaired by Marija Pavlovich McCarthy and offered visitors their choice of 149 works in oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, mixed media, graphics and sculpture.
The jury of selection and awards was made up of Patricia Billeci, Ellie Bender and Roger Kastel, who presented the following awards to this yearâs participating artists:
The Larry Newquist Award for Excellence (Best in Show), accompanied by a $300 cash prize, went to Carolyn S. Battaglia for her watercolor âEvening in Casablancaâ;
The Lois Zimmermann Memorial Award ($250), to Mireille Duchesne for âA Slice of Watermelon,â an oil painting;
The Ida Van Tassell Memorial Award ($150), to Ruth Newquist for âUptown,â a mixed media piece;
The Bee Publishing Company Award ($150) to Richard Kaminskas for âZofiaâ (or âZoftaâ), graphics;
The Newtown Savings Bank Award ($150) to Lorraine Ryan for her watercolor âMonhegan Sentinelâ;
The Taunton Press Award ($150) to Marianne C. Imhoff for âWinter Sunset,â a pastel;
The Anthony E. Wallace Sr Award ($100) to Mario Ambrosio for âAutumn Harvest II,â an oil;
The Savings Bank of Danbury Award to Richard Yerrington âWoodbury Walk,â an oil painting;
The Society of Creative Arts Award ($100 each) to Lorraine Skelsky Chapin for âHead of Meadow Truto, Cape,â an oil painting; Pamela Reese for âThrough the Onion Field,â an oil painting; Lee Brownell for âBig Wheels,â also an oil; and Julie Hopkins for âLyman Orchard Trees,â a pastel; and
The Barn Gallery Award ($50 gift certificate) to Marilyn Ventresca DiChiara for âVintage on Display,â a graphics work.
