The Best Yet
The Best Yet
To the Editor:
Once again, Newtown has proved its reputation as a great community. The Seventh Annual Newtown Hooked Rug Show, held at the Reed School on October 4, was the best yet â thanks, in large part, to our volunteers. Members of St Rose Confirmation Class, Newtown Middle School students, Newtown High School students, civic groups, including Garden Club of Newtown, Horticulture Club of Newtown, Newtown Junior Womenâs Club, and countless others all gave their time and talents to making the show a success. We absolutely could not have done it without you! Annually, we have about 500 visitors between 9 am and 3 pm and it would be impossible to manage the event without such a great staff.
We are indebted to Tony and June Gallucci, owners of Nickâs Restaurant in Danbury, for catering the event, David Jurman for his sound system, Catherine Larson, our webmistress, SCAN and C.H. Booth Library for display setups, Connor Landscaping, Reed School staff, as well as The Newtown Bee, Danbury News-Times, Voices, and Acorn Press for great publicity. Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism and Northwest Connecticut Convention & Visitors Bureau also provided support.
This event draws artists and vendors from all along the Eastern seaboard, and even from the Midwest. Visitors were especially fortunate this year because our fall foliage was so spectacular. Many of us take the âNewtown attitudeâ for granted â we shouldnât, it is unique. It all adds up to a great visit for a lot of people who went home happy, and took with them a wonderful opinion of Newtown and its people.
And, equally important, all proceeds were donated to the Handicapped Entry Fund at the Newtown Meeting House.
Sincerely,
Sherry Paisley and Liz Alpert Fay
