‘Brighton Beach Memoirs’ Opening This Weekend

On Stage At TheatreWorks New Milford

NEW MILFORD — TheatreWorks New Milford is ready with performances of the modern American classic Brighton Beach Memoirs. The play is a funny and heartfelt tale of yesteryear by one of today’s most renowned playwrights, Neil Simon.

Based loosely on Simon’s own experiences as a teenager, Brighton Beach Memoirs is set in a small, crowded home in 1937 Brooklyn, where Eugene Jerome lives with his large, cantankerous family. With humor, cleverness, and poignancy, this irrepressible adolescent bears witness as everyone around him copes with the hardships of the Great Depression and anxiously watches as Europe teeters on the brink of another World War.

Under the direction of Glenn R. Couture of Ansonia, the production will feature Keilly Gillen McQuail of Newtown; Ben Grinberg, of New Preston; M.J. Hartell, Brookfield; Susan Abrams, Warren; and Tom Mulhare, Joe Harding, and Emma Nissenbaum, all from New Milford.

Performances will be held at 8 pm, on Fridays and Saturdays, May 4–26. One matinee will be held at 2 pm, on Sunday, May 20. Tickets for all shows are $20 for general admission.

On Thursday, May 10, at 8 pm, the theater company will present TheatreWorks’ Pay-What-You-Want night, where theatergoers set the price of their tickets.

Reservations for any performance can be made by visiting TheatreWorks.us or by calling the box office at 860-350-6863.

TheatreWorks is an award-winning, regional company, and is at 5 Brookside Avenue, just off Route 202 (next to CVS).
