Sunday, October 26 â The Newtown Bridle Lands Association will hold its Frost on the Pumpkin Pace on Sunday, October 26, 8 am to 12 noon, at Mount Nebo Road. A buffet lunch will be held from 11 am to 2 pm. Entries close on October 22, or when pace is full. Sunday, October 26 â The Windy Hollow Hunt Pace will be held Sunday, October 26, 10 am to 1 pm,Â at Coal Tree Farm in West Town, New York. Formal attire. Sunday, November 2 â The Smithtown Hunt Fall Pace will be held Sunday, November 2, from 9 am to 12 noon, at SUNY College in Smithtown, New York. Proper riding attire required. Cost is $50 for adult members ($70 for non-members) and $25 for juniors. Contact Alan Fairbairn at 1-631-912-0204.

Sunday, November 9 â The Goldenâs Bridge Hounds Fall Hunter Pace will be held Sunday, November 9, 9 am to 1 pm, at The Race Track on Baxter Road in North Salem, New York. Proper hunting attire and hard hats. Contact Heidi Sweet at 1-203-778-3003.

Horse Shows/Paces

Sunday, November 9 â The Woodbury FFA will host its annual Hunter Pace on Sunday, November 9,. The event is open to teams of riders and is designed to simulate a traditional foxhunt. All proceeds will benefit the Woodbury FFA, a national agricultural youth leadership organization associated with the Agri-Science program at Nonnewaug High School in Woodbury. There will be Hack (slower) and Hunt (faster) divisions that will be divided into junior and senior entries. Cost is $50 for seniors and $40 for juniors under 18. Special awards for Best Matched Pair, Turtle Team, Youngest Rider, Family Award, and highest-placing 4-H, FFA and Pony Club teams will be presented. Sunday, November 23 â Cricker Brook Farm in Monroe will hold a Schooling Show on Saturday, November 23. Classes will include Leadline, Walk/Trot, Beginner, Pleasure Hunter, Jumper and Equitation. Trail Rides

Sunday, November 2 â The Second Company Governorâs Horse Guard will hold its Saddle-Up Trail Ride for the benefit of St. Judeâs Childrenâs Hospital on Sunday, November 2, between 9 am and 12 noon. Single riders can meet at 11 am to form a group. There will be pony rides for the kids from 10 am to 12 noon. Rain date is November 9. Call Corporal Jackie Sundblade for directions and registration forms at 729-5646. All riders should have proof of rabies vaccinations and a negative Coggins test.

I was talking about the state being forced to turn over our voter data files to the federal government. Last I checked States are in charge of elections. I show my license every time I vote. There is no evidence of wide scale nton-citizens voting in this country. The Heritage Foundation looked into this and could not find a problem. If the so-called Save Voting law were to be passed, I, as a woman who changed my name when I got married, would have to go through additional work to prove who I am because my name no longer matches what was on my birth certificate.

Elections Have Consequences XXI

Considering showing proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections is an 80/20 issue. Also, explain why you would be against showing ID to vote? Just curious, if you entered a foreign country illegally, would you expect to be able to vote in that foreign countries elections?

This article notes that a “director of operations is largely the same thing as a town administrator.” But, the Charter states that “[t]he First Selectman shall be the Chief Executive and Administrative Officer of the Town...” So, it appears that Newtown already has a town administrator. Also, the Charter outlines some of the responsibilities of the Administrative Officer (i.e., First Selectman), for example, in sections 4-40 [employees], 6-05(b) [creating a budget], and 7-15(d) [purchasing]. Would the Director of Operations have any say over employee performance reviews and decisions related to hiring or dismissing employees? Would s/he be the one to work with individual departments when developing a budget? Would s/he be considered a purchasing authority? If not, then how will the position actually help reduce the administrative workload that the First Selectman now does? Also, will the position include enough leadership responsibilities to entice those with the skills that the town needs to offload those responsibilities from the First Selectman? Perhaps answers to these questions (and more) could be a part of the work of the next Charter Revision Committee.

Voting Rights - Ct. is one of 24 states being sued by the DOJ for not turning over our statewide voter registration lists including driver's license and social security numbers.

A very Happy Birthday to Mary Allen on this momentous occasion. During my time as First Selectman, I found great joy in participating in centennial celebrations at Stone Bridge and throughout Newtown. Providing a formal citation for a milestone like yours remains one of my proudest memories of public service.
