The State Of The Arts
The State Of The Arts
BRIDGEPORT â In the fall of 2006 Black Rock Art Center hosted the âBridgeport: State of the Artsâ festival, which included an overview of music performers from Bridgeport, 70 visual artists, and a panel to discuss current problems facing the arts community.
The overwhelming response to it has led to an on going series of informal discussions that has included more than 150 participants consisting of professional artists as well as members of arts organizations and the general public, who want to see the arts developed in Bridgeport.
The next âState of the Artsâ gathering will take place at Readâs Art Space, 1042 Broad Street, on Sunday, May 20, at 2 pm. The program is free, open to the public, and will include refreshments.
Panelists for the session will include representatives of City Lights Gallery, Black Rock Art Center, NEST Arts Factory, Fairfield Arts Council, Readâs Art Space, and the newly formed Concerned Citizens for the Arts in Bridgeport (CCABpt).
Subjects that will be discussed include the development of a Bridgeport arts council, the current status of arts facilities including NEST and Black Rock Art Center, and future plans for an arts agenda for the upcoming mayoral election.
