St Rose School has announced that a large percentage of its students qualified

to participate in the Johns Hopkins University Institute for the Academic

Advancement of Youth Program.

To qualify for this program, students must score above the 97th percentile

when compared to national norms in at least one major category of a

standardized aptitude or achievement test. St Rose School employs the Iowa

Tests of Basic Skills.

Seventh and eighth grade students in this program take the SAT college

entrance exam, normally administered to high school seniors. This year, about

40 percent of St Rose seventh graders and 25 percent of the eighth graders

were eligible for this exam.

Two students, Jennifer Ratzing and Stephanie Kraushaar received state awards

for ranking for among the highest scoring students in the State of

Connecticut.

The other eligible seventh graders who chose to participate were Maren

Anderson and Regina Gilroy.

In the eighth grade, Eric Quinn, Kurt Klingensmith and Cara Cimini took the

SAT.

Serock, Simone Jamison and Brooks Smith in the fifth grade.

received state awards for their academic ability at the State Celebration of

Talent competition.

In addition, many students in second, third, and fourth grade qualified to

participate in the 1998 Johns Hopkins University Elementary Students Talent

Search.

About 30 percent of St Rose second and third graders and 35 percent of St Rose

fourth graders qualified.

Second graders who qualified are: Emily Boncek, Gregory Clinnin, Patricia

Culligan, Ryan Drummond, Kevin Heithaus, Justin Lemma, James O'Brien and

Amelia Smith.
