SNAPSHOT: THOMAS MURPHY

Occupation: I have been an attorney for 2« years. I joined my wife, Michele,

in Murphy & Murphy at 38 Church Hill Road in 1996. She had been in practice

since 1988. We do estate planning, elder law and real estate. I have a degree

in marketing from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Finance and

received my law degree from Pace University School of Law.

How Long Been in Newtown: I have lived in Newtown since 1971, when I was 11

years old. Prior to that I lived in Milford.

Biggest Change Seen in Town: The biggest change I see is the sophistication of

our children. I gave a Law Day presentation at the middle school last year.

The kids wanted to know if they could divorce from their parents, how to

settle their grandparents' estates, and whether they could sue local merchants

whose coffee is too hot. I said, "You're 12 and you drink coffee?"

Family: My wife, Michele, and I have been married for 15 years. We have three

children, Kyle, 9, Rebecca, 7, and Rachel, 4.

Pets: We have no pets, but Rachel turns herself into a cat several times a

day.

Hobbies: I enjoy biking, skiing, and photographing the kids. I have thousands

of pictures of the kids. I taught all three kids to ski. The five of us bike

and ski together. We have a game room where we play games, such as bumper

pool.

Favorite books and authors: I like to read, but I have no time for reading

because of the professional journals I have to read for continuing education.

Organizations: I'm a Cub Scout den leader and teach church school at Trinity

Church. I also belong to several professional organizations.

Favorite Vacation Spot: We like Vermont. We take the kids up there a lot so we

can just sit in one place for an afternoon and enjoy the beauty of the scenery

or throw a ball. We have very simple pleasures.

Most Vivid Memory About Newtown: I remember getting engaged to Michele sitting

on the bench at the top of Castle Hill, overlooking the flagpole.

Philosophy: Look forward to tomorrow, but enjoy today. Hang with the kids and

teach them how to enjoy the world.
