Kidney Foundation Scholarships

WEST HARTFORD — The National Kidney Foundation of Connecticut is offering scholarship opportunities to Connecticut residents pursuing higher education. Award amounts are based on the qualifications of applicants, with a maximum of $2,000 given to any one winner. This year’s total scholarship fund is $10,000.  This is the third year that the group is offering the scholarship.

The scholarship program is open to people who are receiving kidney dialysis, have received a kidney transplant, or have had Childhood Nephrotic Syndrome. Dependents of those who meet the criteria are also eligible. Applicants must either demonstrate acceptance into an accredited institution of higher learning or currently be enrolled in such an institution. Scholarship criteria include academic performance, financial need, and community service.

Applications are now available. The firm deadline for submission of completed applications is June 8, 2001. Checks are issued in July to use toward the 2001-2002 school year. For more information or to obtain an application packet, call Donna Sciacca at the National Kidney Foundation of Connecticut at 800-441-1280.

The National Kidney Foundation is a voluntary health organization that seeks to prevent kidney and urinary tract diseases, improve the health and well being of individuals and families affected by these diseases, and increase the availability of all organs for transplantation. The Connecticut chapter is one of 52 affiliates nationwide. Public donations and donation of vehicles to its KidneyCars Program fund the work of the National Kidney Foundation.
