Open House At New DMR Family Respite Center

SOUTHBURY — The Connecticut Department of Mental Retardation’s (DMR) West Region has planned an open house at its new respite center.

The public is invited to visit Family Respite Center at Spruce Brook, at 800 Spruce Brook Road in Southbury, on Monday, July 25, from 4 to 7 pm. An official ribbon cutting will take place at 5:30.

Family Respite Center at Spruce Brook marks the department’s tenth respite center, serving over 1,000 families a year. The DMR Respite Centers offer consumers a chance to meet new people and experience new adventures while at the same time their families receive a break from the day to day routine of caregiving.

Invited guests on Saturday include state legislators, town officials, DMR families and consumers, and DMR administrators.

For additional information contact Joan C. Barnish, in the DMR Communications office, at 860-418-6044.
