Venturing Crew 70 Schedules Meeting
Venturing Crew 70, a high adventure youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women 14 years of age (and who have completed the eighth grade) to 20 years of age, will meet Wednesday, October 18, at 7:30 pm, in Cullens Memorial Lodge, 72 Taunton Lake Road. The meeting will provide the opportunity to find out more about the Venturing Crew and sign up.
Formerly led by Aaron and Amy Cox, Venturing Crew 70 is under the leadership this year of Tracy and Peter Van Buskirk, both former scout leaders in Newtown.
The new advisors are looking to build up membership and stress that the Venturing Crew is a low-key organization, meeting only once every two weeks, with monthly trips planned.
Some of the activities members can look forward to include hiking and backpacking, rock climbing, canoeing, caving, and snowshoeing. âWe are very open to doing what the kids want to do,â said Ms Van Buskirk.
Longer high adventure trips are planned for each summer. Recent summer trips have included sea kayaking in North Carolina, mountain climbing and caving in Colorado, wilderness canoeing via seaplanes in Northern Canada, rafting and rock climbing in Maine, and Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.
Young men and women who are interested in more information but are unable to attend the October 18 meeting can contact the Van Buskirks at 426-3014 or at kriksubnav@hotmail.com.
