Timothy J. Holian

Democrat, District 2

Personal Info: Age 47. 3 Wendover Road. Lifelong resident of Newtown. Attorney, in private practice on Main Street for 18 years.  Member of the Legislative Council since 1997 and has served on the finance, ordinance, and public works sub-committees. Past member Newtown Conservation Commission.

What personal qualities do you have that you believe will benefit the Legislative Council? — Newtown has been my home for 47 years. I have an abiding concern for the welfare of our community and the well-being of its residents. I’m dedicated and conscientious, and I am anxious and willing to serve.

What will be the council’s biggest challenge in the next two years? — Assisting in the creation of a plan for the responsible development of, and use of, Fairfield Hills.

Do you favor economic development at Fairfield Hills, or should the campus be used solely for municipal purposes?  Our need for municipal space is pressing and urgent, but it would be foolish to dedicate the enormous available space on the campus solely for municipal purposes. I envision partial use of the campus to satisfy municipal space needs, partial use for professional offices, light commercial development, and retail or service oriented businesses, and use of the remaining sizeable open space for passive recreation.

The proposed changes to the charter may fail on November 6 because of confusion and concern over the need to implement the changes in just 30 days because of a clerical error. Would you be willing to reappoint a charter revision commission next year to bring these changes before the public again a year from now so that they may be considered solely on their merits? — Yes.
